ZERO STARS. I have gone to Woodies downtown(uptown for you locals) many times in the past, when living near, without problem or trust issues. I scheduled(by appt.) an inspection at the Carmel Rd. location, waited an hour, then was told there were some "issues". Car is in great shape, new, low miles, no tint, etc. etc. Just one week prior I had the car at the dealership for an oil change, where I also got air/cabin filter changed, a fuel service performed, and drain/replace brake fluid, as well as had all brake pads checked. When I approached the desk to discuss the "issues", I was told that front pads were recommended and 'very low', yet the dealer, one week prior, said they were fine. I was also told I should replace the air/cabin filter, get my "dirty" brake fluid changed and have a fuel system service performed. I questioned them immediately, they rechecked, said the brake fluid was actually fine, and that the other two items were just recommendations without any actual check or confirmation. They also stated the one of the front struts was "leaking", and that failed the state inspection. They showed me. No active leaking, no drip, etc. Yes, there was fluid/grease/grime around the top housing of the strut, but a safety failure....give me a break. Oh, they then quoted a replacement for ~$1,000. After the leaky strut convo all I could think about was some of the vehicles roaming the streets of Charlotte & Meck County. I understand it is up to the garages discretion, but this was nothing more than a money grab and potential attempt to take advantage of a customer who they thought they could pull the typical garage speak tricks on. STAY AWAY from this place. I'm disappointed. I took my car to a reputable garage immediately after this, no tricks, no under the table agreement, and obviously passed without issue, all while making them aware of what transpired at Woodie's. The state inspection process SHOULD NOT BE USED as a vehicle for shops like this to gouge customers or make false claims simply to boost their business & profit, due to the state mandating they take a mere $30 for an inspection.
