TLTR: Pros: Great work Cons: Bill padding, recommending work already done, charging diagnostic fees for repairs done Lets get the good news out of the way first. I havent had any major issues with the work done. The mechanics in the shop seem to know what they are doing. Their skill is whats keeping this review higher than a 1 or 2. Recently, I brought my car in with some routine work and an issue with my front end. I was hearing clicking when i turned so i asked them to test drive it and diagnose the problem. I got a write up of all my vehicles issues. They found some other issues like the brakes which i opted to replace based on their findings. As part of the replacement they recommended a break flush. I asked about why a brake flush was necessary since i had one recently from them. He removed that from the bill. They quoted me $400 to replace a battery, i went to oreilly auto and they got it done for $230. They quoted me $100 to replace an air filter. You can do that yourself for $12 or a jiffy lube place might charge $15-$30 for that. I had some other work done totaling over $2300 dollars. I looked over the bill again later this week and saw that they had charged me for the test drive of $80. I couldnt help but laugh. I have been dealling with these guys for close to 20 years now. Mostly out of the downtown location. The amount of money that ive spent on repairs for 5 cars over that time period is in the thousands. I could buy a decent new car with the money ive spent at woodies. I didnt start having these attempts to pad my bill until i started using this location. They have a totally different business philosophy here (mint hill location), pad that bill to the gills and let the customer chip away. My opinion is that business is really good for them right now and they are milking it. Their parking lot is always full. The shop is always busy. Woodies is printing money. Good for them. Enjoy the good times. But there is a limit to what customers are willing to deal with. The reason i go to woodies is that i know that the work will get done right and its close to where i live. I understand that im going to pay more compared to a random shop down the street and im ok with that if the work is good and im treated well otherwise. It used to be that they would inform me of charges ahead of time and not charge diagnostic fees if they perform the repair. If he would have said to me "hey we charge $80 just to drive your vehicle around the block" i might have declined the work. (maybe thats why it never came up) So now im considering using the dealership from now on. There does not appear to be a difference in price or customer experience between the two. Woodies is basically a dealership shop without being a dealership and thats too bad.
