Dropped my car off this morning for some basic work. Needed to get an e-brake adjustment, and inspection. From the moment I first called I knew this was going to be a good experience. Very polite and helpful on the phone, answering questions and even giving me an estimate (a lot of places won't). Dropped it off at about 7:45 am, both guys at the front were very polite, and we chatted for a few. In and out in about 5 min. I just got a call (about 2 hours later) My car is totally done, ready to pick up. Priced less then the estimate. And then here comes the part I hate, what else is wrong with my car, and what are you going to try and charge me for?? Didn't get that at all this time, my service tech let me know about a loose bearing that should be looked at soon, but I never felt that he was actually trying to sell me. Just a suggestion, and he even said he will have a print out of the work the car "should" have done. But never once did I feel pressured. That alone makes me want to bring my car back here to get that work done.....when I have the $$ Thanks Woodies, will be back!

Woodie's gets a full five stars, without hesitation. And here's why: I drive a 1994 Subaru Legacy Wagon ("the family heirloom") with over 200,000 miles on it. On Aug 31, 2010, my car battery died again, and I got it jumped a third time in two weeks, even after driving it for an hour to charge it up. Anyway, I called AAA to replace the battery. By the way - not all AAA service guys are alike. This guy replaced my full warranty battery with a new one, then did a cheesy handheld check on it once it was installed and claimed he couldn't give me the battery because my alternator was not sending out a strong enough voltage, even though I told him the alternator had been replaced a year ago, and I'd just driven 1000 miles from Arkansas to NC for a new job. Does this deter him? No. He takes out the new battery and puts my old one it, and of course recommends I go to a AAA service shop. He was friendly and professional, but as it turns out, a bit of a weasel. Not feeling too great with the prospect of having to replace the alternator and the battery (he didn't dispute the battery was bad), I searched the reviews and Woodies Auto Service was the only one with consistently good reviews. I called them up that night (it was after hours), and got a really nice receptionist that advised me to call in first thing in the morning. I was especially stressed, because I had an important meeting the next day, I was new to town, and not to be a sexist, but as a woman in a new town with an old vehicle, the outlook didn't seem too rosy. Anyway, I called Woodie's Auto Service the next day (Sept 1, 2010) and talked with Nolan, the manager. He was great to deal with. He was honest, and told me that in this area of the country there are some AAA service guys that love to tell AAA customers that they won't replace the battery because of a question about the alternator functioning properly. He gave me an estimate over the phone for a new alternator ($315 or so) but told me to bring it in, since he doubted that it was truly the alternator. I went to Woodie's Auto Service and the tested the alternator - no problems. It cost me all of $26.00 or so. They even checked my oil and gave me an extra quart or so, no charge. Very friendly, knowledgeable and honest. Given the reputation that a lot of mechanics have, it was a wonderful experience to be treated with respect and to have my car serviced by well-qualified and honest mechanics. And the battery? I called AAA and got a different service guy - he replaced the battery at Woodies - no problems. I highly recommend this shop for automotive services.

These guys quoted me $12 more than the place I usually go to, but the other place is way out in Indian Trail, so I'm happy to pay the $12 for the convenience. These guys did a great job and the price was substantially cheaper than other garages I called in the uptown area. Plus, these guys are right down the street from my office, so they did the repairs while I was at work. Super convenient. The total price for my repair was $261 and they were really good about confirming what was wrong and how much it would cost. Like the other reviewer said, the price was as quoted when I went to pick up the car. I will be going here again to get work done on my cars and strongly recommend them.

I am completely suspicious of mechanics and dreaded finding a new one when I moved to Charlotte. Unfortunately, my search for an honest mechanic began sooner than I had expected when my car suddenly died on me a few weekends ago. My tow truck driver recommended Woodie's and, having no idea where else to go, decided to give it a try. I really like their Uptown location, which allowed me to walk from my house (in Belmont/First Ward) to Woodie's and then from the shop to my office. I've heard that they also have a service to drop off people who are leaving their cars there but didn't use as I was hoofing it. What really impressed me about Woodies, though, was the service. I thought I needed a new alternator, but the mechanic at Woodie's called me a few hours after I dropped off my car to tell me that only my battery was dead. The mechanic also made sure to get a verbal ok from me before he did anything else. As I was also getting my automatic window repaired, I received another call from Woodie's later in the day to let me know what exactly was wrong with my window and the exact amount it would cost to fix it. Once again, the employee made sure I was ok with the price and assessment before he began any work on the window. I dropped my car off at 8am on a Monday, and by 3pm, my car was ready for pick-up. Best of all, when I picked up my car, the price I was charged was exactly what the mechanic had quoted me on the phone. I was very pleased with my experience there and, most importantly, didn't think the mechanics were trying to hose me just because of my lady-status.
